The last 50 years has witnessed a growing awareness of the rights of all people to worship freely, without governmental interference. Some notable milestones along the way are listed. They indicate points at which religious freedom and tolerance have been advanced in many nations of the world.

Here is also an alphabetical listing of all the countries of the world. Some have constitutions. Some do not. We have begun to highlight those countries where religious rights are written into their constitutions and for which we have documentation. Note: This indicates how the law reads, not necessarily how it is interpreted or applied.
